The idea for Meivertor began during a routine meibography exam, when MaryAnn Klassen observed a technician struggle to evert her upper eyelid using a traditional two-handed Q-tip technique. That experience revealed a clear gap in existing eye care workflows and highlighted the need for a more controlled, single-handed approach. MaryAnn reached out to Zach Vanderwel, a mechanical engineer, who helped rapidly prototype a solution. Those early designs were then refined through close collaboration with Dr. Paul Karpecki and a network of leading U.S. optometrists and ophthalmologists. Following this early development work, MaryAnn and Zach founded Mazado Inc. in 2022, bringing Meivertor to market with a focus on real-world clinical use.  

As awareness of Meivertor grew, interest quickly expanded beyond the U.S. market. In 2024, we began international distribution in Australia and Canada, marking our first steps into global expansion. That momentum continued in 2025 with entry into the UK, the Netherlands, France, and Portugal, along with securing patent protection in Canada, Europe, and Asia to support long-term global availability.

As clinical understanding continues to evolve around the role of the upper eyelid in comprehensive meibomian gland assessment, Meivertor is well positioned to support eye care professionals. Designed specifically for controlled, single-handed eversion of both the upper and lower eyelids, our system supports more complete meibography workflows while also enhancing how clinicians engage patients during evaluation. As adoption grows, we continue to scale Meivertor internationally and are actively seeking exclusive or regional distribution partners who value well-engineered tools for modern eye care and who are looking to strengthen their portfolios with clinically relevant solutions.
